Great job! I just hope this jw has access to the Interwebs! Almost everyone 'still in' that I've told the UN story to doesn't have the Internet and has no desire to log on...due mostly to the 'demonization' of Internet at the hall. So, I haven't been seeing much fruitage from all my 'labors'....but still, you did a GREAT JOB!

Memorial conundrum - "So good to see you. Where have you been?"
by Meeting Junkie No More inok, gearing up for the memorial - our annual have to attend.
this is the first year that we will be showing up without having been to meetings in months.
on the last meeting i was cajoled into attending, i was bombarded with the above question.

Sorry, and I forgot to say that, looking back, I just felt so sorry for all the attendees and how spiritually impoverished they all are without even being aware of it. Truly a case of the blind leading the blind, just speaking the same old tired 'words' that fall so far short of the 'experience' of God's love. Since I've stopped attending the mind-numbing meetings and opened myself to reading 'other' material about Christianity and history and religion in general, I feel so much more alive spiritually and so much more in tune with the 'One' and the 'All', both spirit and human.
And I just wanted to thank you all for your amazing replies! I didn't need them, in the end, but it was great to be 'forearmed'.

Ok - Here's the scoop on what actually happened when we attended Saturday night:
First off, I had the worst feeling all day - kind of like when you're 6 and tommorrow's the first day of school - knots in my stomach, kind of nervous, jittery, a weird kind of dread....
Anyhow, went through the whole 'dress up' ritual, actually arrived a little too early and sat in the car in the parking lot, waiting....
Walked in, got all kinds of 'raised eyebrows - Oh, look, they MADE IT!' kind of looks, but so many outstretched hands, hugs, 'Great to see you's!' - NOT ONE 'Where have you been?' - IT WAS TRULY REFRESHING! They still remember us, they still 'love us', not one person made mention of how many meetings we have missed....must be a new 'tactic!'
Anyhow, the talk was dry and dead, as usual. Same old songs, nothing new. All the 'wine and bread plate passers' (brothers)' in the front row were laughing, joshing, really looked like the old boys' club that it is. All said and done - 45 minutes TOTAL. So much for the high holiest day of the year. For all the talk of 'appreciation' and 'loving provision' blah, blah, it was surprising how quickly everyone's conversation lapsed into the mundane, everyday worldly stuff as soon as it was over...
Some dear old soul half jokingly(?) called out "Don't forget to come back!" as we exited the meeting. HA HA!!!
So, went to a fellow faders' home afterward, enjoyed some good ole' association etc., then went to our own home to enjoy a beautiful little home-made basket of goodies - a harbinger of the beautiful rebirth of life called SPRING soon to come! They are just symbols to me now of what Jesus' resurrection MEANS and a way to CELEBRATE the greatness of his sacrifice and love for mankind...I no longer see chocolates or eggs as 'evil' or 'pagan' - they're just SYMBOLS and I'm not WORSHIPPING them.
Got through it ok! But won't be going back anytime soon. Will start another thread about contents of the 'talk' when I get more time...

JW LOOPHOLE ON BLOOD IN PRINT!!
by Burger Time inok just read this article and didn't see it anywhere else.
anyways in this article the liason committee gives permission for a "forced" transfusion.
the article basically points out the loophole!!

This took place in the 90's? OK, so this just makes me MADD now! So much for the 'worldwide brotherhood' then. Different laws in different countries; different accommodations made by the JW hierarchy as to what constitutes 'violation' of 'God's law' and 'disfellowshipping' offence in different countries.
For someone who has the wherewithal to do a search and info on the different accommodations made by JWs to different countries in which they have 'obtained' 'legal recognition' -unfortunately, I wouldn't know how to access such document, I think this would be a HUGE EYEOPENER to the rank and file about how duplicitous this organization is from the TOP DOWN....and cavorting with the political system ala the 'whore of Babylon' - I remember when to be a Witness meant to follow the Biblical injuction ABSTAIN FROM BLOOD - PERIOD. It's all so different now. No wonder Witnesses as a whole are becoming more and more confounded. It's only those of us on the outside now who SEE THE LIGHT!

So am I correct in assuming that for every country the JWs want legal recognition in, they are prepared to bend over backwards in regards to the blood issue - just like in Bulgaria...similar thing now took place in Germany?

This is one of the most well-written, and thought-provoking articles on the 'blood issue' that I have read in a long time, and I agree, I think this is HUGE.
The WBTS' stance on this issue is all over the place...totally irrational, and incomprehensible. Truly, "blind guides" is all they are. After the Society's extensive pontificating on the subject, all James Pell*cchia can say is that it is "up to the individual to decide whether they want to apply that law or not." Interestingly, the only portion of his statement quoted in the article prior thereto is that tranfusion "would be a violation of God's law". The word 'transfusion' is not even a part of his quote. Transfusion of what though, neither the writer of the article, nor, presumably, James Pell*chia dares say. How hypocritical! It's all semantics, a magic show. In the end, YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN. However, the "Witness liason" is there to support your compromise, should you decide to take that route! What a bunch of gobbledygook. Like others have so aptly said, the more the WBTS speaks, the deeper they dig their own grave.
Just my 2 cents.

Sorry to ask more questions on this thread....
What is the spin about Jesus drinking 'no more' of this product of the vine, until he drinks it new with them in the Kingdom? How can he drink again of LITERAL wine, unless he returns to his Kingdom literally? Some of these sayings are truly mystifying but of course, it is all glossed over with convoluted typical Watchtower 'pretzel' reasoning...wish I could remember the thread I first read that in - describes it perfectly...it's all conjecture!

Ok, so the Org's take is that AFTER the Passover, Jesus instituted the new meal...thanks for clarifying that...
Not to hijack the thread, but I came across some interesting information on a Discovery Channel video on the Last Supper...apparently the Passover was a FAMILY celebration, with women attending as well. So from that aspect, there should be every possibility that women could also have been in attendance at the Passover celebration, including the institution of the new covenant. The Bible does not specifically mention who exactly was there. And Jesus said "Take, eat ALL OF YOU..."
Just thought it was an interesting aspect. Of course, it takes open-minded theologians and scholars to do some serious meditating and historical research to come up with these angles. Who knows what was edited out of the reports of that last supper that finally made it into the heavily edited New Testament that we are left with today. Perhaps even the fact that Judas partook was edited out. Who knows?

Romantic Notions of returning to.......

i have observed in a number of threads some of the members here have expressed the need to return to the org.
or to become active again.

Meeting Junkie No More
Well, every so often, I kind of have faintly romantic notion of how things used to be....and how it would be to go back
but then, I realize the 'truth' was sort of like a carousel ride - nice at first, up and down, around, around, all the pretty horses, etc. but after a while, the ride got dizzying, around, around again and again, up and down, up and down, faster, faster, do more, not doing enough, the end is coming, doom and gloom, give more, spend more, donate more, visit this one, visit that one, send your love, receive the love of the XYZ congregation (who?), stand firm, don't give in, the Devil is after you, even if you're sick, tired, struggling financially, give ALL, you will receive, you will be rewarded, soon, soon, Special Campaign coming up, Special Meeting, Special Assembly. Anyhow, finally decided to get OFF the ride and looking back, it's been one big RELIEF.
Why would I want to climb aboard again? It's not going anywere except around and around again. In the meantime, the pace is SICKENING....
I don't think Jesus ever intended that.
